From 31.05. to 9.06.2023 Sr. Alina Furczyk, Assistant General, stayed in Ukraine. Sister visited all the communities of the Sisters and had the opportunity to meet with all the Sisters working in Ukraine.
These were very moving meetings, during which the Sisters shared their experience of the war time. The recent time has been very difficult for everyone, as anti-aircraft alarms have sounded almost every night and sometimes during the day since the beginning of May. People live in a situation of constant stress and danger, are forced to get up in the middle of the night almost every night and then function normally during the day, which causes great fatigue. Additional suffering was brought by the news that the Russians had blown up the dam in Nova Kakhovka, as a result of which dozens of villages ended up under water, and people in the occupied territories have been deprived of aid. Water also flooded part of Kherson, the city where our Sisters work. Though they cannot stay in the city at the moment, they are organizing aid and staying in touch with the priest and parishioners. They are also ready to return there as soon as possible.
Despite the war and all the misfortunes, everyone in Ukraine is trying to live normally, as much as the situation allows, doing what is possible and praying for a quick end of the war. Sisters organize and join in various forms of assistance: material, psychological and spiritual. They strive to bring peace and love, seek God’s will and new forms of service to people, make a daily effort to overcome themselves and their fears, supporting each other and helping the people among whom they live.
Let us continue to pray that God will show mercy and give peace to Ukraine.
