On the sunny Friday afternoon, September 13th, 2024, the group of approximately 50 people gathered on the grassy area in front of Brother Albert Home in Marayong. It was the moment everyone had been waiting for so long. Delayed by various circumstances, including the time of COVID, we are now back on track and anticipating, with great excitement, the commencement of the building of the addition to our Aged Care facility—the new 60-place Nazareth Home.
Sr. Margaret (Malgorzata Kozub), our Provincial Leader, welcomed everyone present for the groundbreaking ceremony, especially our architect, Nick Seemann, Managing Director, along with his team from Constructive Dialogue Architects, and Matthew Macauley, CEO of Grindley Construction, with his team. She acknowledged the presence of our Board Directors, CEO Alasdair Croydon, management, residents of Aged Care and the Retirement Village, and friends.
Sr. Margaret reminded all of us of where we started. In her opening speech, she said: “This project began with a vision—a vision of creating a structure that expresses and defines who we are and what the mission of HFS represents. It has been a long and challenging journey, but we are excited to start this new chapter.”
All present agreed that the ceremony marks the beginning of a journey filled with innovation, growth, and community spirit. This building will be a tremendous addition to our community, as Sr. Margaret said. There was a sense of joy, pride, and excitement when praying over the ground that remembers the first building on the Marayong site. Fr. Artur Botur sprinkled the ground with Holy Water, and those representing the leadership of various groups participated in the sod cutting.
Our Sisters, gathered for the event, recalled stories of the past, acknowledging how much has been achieved over the past 70 years and how the Congregation continuously responds to the needs of families in Marayong, Australia at large, and beyond.
Sr. Margaret concluded her speech with a happy encouragement: “Together, we will lay the foundation not only for a building but for a brighter future. As Kohelet said, there is a time for everything, and now it is time to build. Let’s do it!”
